Furbo is a pet nanny that looks after your pet when you're not at home. It is an interactive pet camera with a connected app that lets you see, talk, and even give treats to your pet when you're away. Keep close with your furry loved ones, no matter where you are.

KEY FEATURES

  • Alleviate separation anxiety
  • Fun treat tossing
  • Real-time barking alerts
  • A.I. pet detection technology

Wondering what your pets are doing when you are not at home?

CURRENT USERS' THOUGHTS

According to Furbo’s introductions and the features it has, Furbo seems like a very helpful product for pet owners. However, the bad reviews on all the app stores caught my attention. Most of them are having issues with the app, not the device. How can I improve the app to get more users to use this product?

Users' Main Concern...

  • Connection issue
  • Charging for the premium functions
  • Hard to navigate through the app

USER INTERVIEWS

  • The main purpose of this app is the camera feature, so the camera view should have a better UX design
  • App icon style is inconsistent and some of them are very confusing
  • Camera setting should be a separate section not in the menu
  • Advertisements or promotions not only frustrate users but are ineffective
  • Should have in-app notification
  • Add pet profile feature is very confusing
  • The camera should be able to follow the pet (ex. Facebook Portal)

Redesign Proposal

Home Page

  • Adding the interaction feature(toss treats) in the video screen for users to access the most important features of this app faster and easier
  • Change the video screen to vertical , so users have a larger view of their pet
  • Remove the confusing features of the current design (adding pet profile, announcements)

Redesign Proposal

Notifications

  • Pull this section out from the home page and create an in-app notification
  • Having the notifications sort by date so users can keep track of their pet’s activities
  • A lot of the icons colors are very light, redesign the icons to make them more accessible
  • Make the icons more obvious so users can clearly see what is happening with their pets

Setting

  • The current design icons are inconsistent.
  • Reorganized the spacing between each line
  • Adding a secondary color in the redesign proposal to make the screen more interesting

WHAT I LEARNED

Heuristic Eveluation

This redesign project provided a valuable introduction to the method and significance of heuristic evaluation. By assessing the current app against key UX guidelines encompassing usability, functionality, accessibility, and more, I gained a deeper understanding of its pain points. This evaluation process helped me establish a clear direction and purpose for my redesign efforts.

User Interview

The user interviews conducted for this redesign project proved to be the most insightful and beneficial aspect of the process. Through careful observation and the feedback received, I successfully identified areas of user confusion and uncovered anticipated features absent from the current app. Moreover, engaging with experts in these interviews provided multifaceted perspectives, highlighting a range of critical pain points.
